Birthday Update

Where to begin...
Lara's doing well.  Her doctor came by on Monday to discharge her.  Fortunately the hospital has a program for parents of NICU kids called the Nesting program.  If the hospital has empty rooms they allow us to stay there free of charge.  This makes it much easier to visit with them constantly and make it for most of their feedings.  The hospital was really full when we got there but it basically emptied out Saturday night, probably because everyone wanted to be home for Easter.  Hopefully this means we'll have the room until they discharge Andrew and Lucas.

The boys are doing well.  For them to get discharged from the NICU they have to be able to do some basic things - eat well and regularly, regulate body temperature and blood sugar levels, and have nothing out of the ordinary happening.  They've started feeding more and more.  It's been a process with them because, despite being hungry, they often get tired just trying to eat (common for premature kids, they just lack the strength and energy).  They are almost off of the IV at this point.   They are regulating their own body temperature and blood sugar with no problems.  Unfortunately they both got jaundice (not uncommon) so they've started "Photo-therapy" which their fancy term for putting the kids under a lamp.  I snapped some pics of them because I thought they looked like they were sunning themselves.  Enjoy.
